PR173 in green DIN rail enclosure, seen from above at an angle: two shunt resistors, blue trimmer and screw terminals

0-5 A to 0-20 mA converter for current transformers

Article number PR173

The PR173 converts a 0-5 A current into a 0-20 mA signal: 0 A gives 0 mA, 5 A gives 20 mA. The shunt resistor is on the board, so the current transformer can be connected directly. The upper limit of the output is set with the blue trimmer. Input, output and supply are not galvanically isolated from each other; when measuring the consumption of a 230 V AC device, always place a current transformer between that device and the module.

  • Supply 11.5 to 30 V DC
  • Input 0-5 A on terminals 1 and 2, 5 A AC RMS max.; shunt resistor on the board
  • Output 0-20 mA; upper limit adjustable, 22 mA max.

Setup

  1. When measuring the consumption of a 230 V AC device, always place a current transformer between that device and the module.
  2. Connect the current transformer to terminals 1 (minus) and 2 (plus), the supply to terminals 3 (minus) and 5 (plus), and the output to terminal 4.
  3. As delivered, 0 A gives an output of 0 mA and 5 A an output of 20 mA.
  4. If required, adjust the upper limit of the output with the blue trimmer.

Application

  • Connecting a current transformer to a 0-20 mA input
  • Measuring the current consumption of a 230 V AC device, via a current transformer
