PR181 module with twelve screw terminals in DIN rail enclosure, front three-quarter view

4-20 mA signal splitter, one input to two isolated outputs, with display

Article number PR181-X047

The PR181-X047 splits one 4-20 mA signal into two identical 4-20 mA outputs. The two outputs are galvanically isolated from each other, from the input and from the supply to prevent ground loops. The lower and upper limits of the input and of each output are set independently on the display, as is the rise and fall rate of the outputs. As delivered, 4 mA at the input gives 4 mA at both outputs and 20 mA at the input gives 20 mA.

  • Supply 9 to 30 V DC
  • Input 4-20 mA on terminals 3 (minus) and 4 (plus), 25 mA max.
  • Output two 4-20 mA outputs as delivered, 21 mA max.; lower and upper limit adjustable per output

Setup

  1. Connect the module according to the terminal table and switch on the supply.
  2. Set the input to its lowest level, for example 4 mA. In the menu, select IN1 – Set minimum, press OK, select YES and press OK again.
  3. Set the input to its highest level, for example 20 mA. Select IN1 – Set maximum, press OK, select YES and press OK again.
  4. Set the lower limit of output 1 with OUT1 minimum adj: change the value with UP and DOWN and confirm with OK.
  5. Set the upper limit of output 1 in the same way with OUT1 maximum adj.
  6. Set output 2 in the same way with OUT2 minimum adj and OUT2 maximum adj.
  7. If required, use Output speed UP in seconds and Output speed DOWN in seconds to set how many seconds the outputs take to go from 0 to 100 % and from 100 to 0 %.
  8. Other menu items: IN1 minimum adj and IN1 maximum adj fine-tune the input limits; setting OUT1 invert or OUT2 invert to 1 reverses that output; OUT1 off threshold and OUT2 off threshold set a dead band in which the input has no effect (mainly for potentiometers with a switch); Output mode 0 gives a linear output and 1 to 100 an exponential one (mainly for LED dimmers); IN1 override, OUT1 override and OUT2 override let you set the input or output value by hand (with IN1 override the external input is ignored).
  9. Go to the SAVE menu to store the new settings.

Application

  • Sending one 4-20 mA signal to two devices, with galvanic isolation between the outputs to prevent ground loops
  • Driving motors, pumps, valves and hydraulics smoothly with the adjustable rise and fall rate

PR181 series: signal conditioners with display

The modules in the PR181 series are set up on the display on the module, using the UP, DOWN and OK buttons. On most versions the lower and upper limits of input and output are set independently, as is the rise and fall rate of the output; the settings of each module are listed on the product page under Setup. With an adjustable rise and fall rate, motors, pumps, valves and hydraulics can be driven smoothly. On versions with an analogue output, that output is galvanically isolated from input and supply to prevent ground loops. New settings are stored through the SAVE menu. The standard DIN rail enclosure measures 45 x 83 mm (board 42.6 x 72 mm); versions with more terminals are wider. Most modules run on 9 to 30 V DC at -25 to 55 °C, non-condensing.

For some conversions there is also a version without display and without galvanic isolation in the PR100 series: it is set up with push buttons and runs on 12 and 24 V DC (operating range 11 to 30 V DC). Where one exists, it is listed on the product page under Other version.
