PR181 module with heat sink in DIN rail enclosure, front three-quarter view

Up/down push-button LED dimmer with display, low-side switched

Article number PR181-X062

The PR181-X062 dims lighting with two external pulse contacts: one to dim up (terminal 3, UP) and one to dim down (terminal 4, DOWN). The PWM output is low-side switched and delivers up to 3.5 A. At start-up the output goes to a default level set on the display, 50 % as delivered. The dimming speed, dimming curve and PWM frequency (3 Hz to 1 kHz) are also set on the display.

  • Supply 24 V DC ±10 %
  • Input two pulse contacts: UP on terminal 3 and DOWN on terminal 4
  • Output PWM, low-side switched, on terminal 6

Setup

  1. Connect the lamp between terminal 1 (plus) and terminal 6 (PWM output).
  2. Connect the dim-up push button between terminal 3 and terminal 2, and the dim-down push button between terminal 4 and terminal 2.
  3. Link terminal 2 to terminal 7 with a short wire rated for the maximum output current.
  4. Apply 24 V DC to terminal 1 (plus) and terminal 2 (minus).
  5. Use Default output to set the level at which the output starts up.
  6. Use Output speed to set the percentage per second by which the output changes while a button is held.
  7. Other menu items: PWM frequency (3 Hz to 1 kHz) and Dimming curve (1 for incandescent and halogen lamps, around 100 for most LED lamps).
  8. Go to the SAVE menu to store the new settings.

Application

  • Dimming lighting up and down with two push buttons
  • Dimming LED lighting with an adjustable dimming curve

PR181 series: signal conditioners with display

The modules in the PR181 series are set up on the display on the module, using the UP, DOWN and OK buttons. On most versions the lower and upper limits of input and output are set independently, as is the rise and fall rate of the output; the settings of each module are listed on the product page under Setup. With an adjustable rise and fall rate, motors, pumps, valves and hydraulics can be driven smoothly. On versions with an analogue output, that output is galvanically isolated from input and supply to prevent ground loops. New settings are stored through the SAVE menu. The standard DIN rail enclosure measures 45 x 83 mm (board 42.6 x 72 mm); versions with more terminals are wider. Most modules run on 9 to 30 V DC at -25 to 55 °C, non-condensing.

For some conversions there is also a version without display and without galvanic isolation in the PR100 series: it is set up with push buttons and runs on 12 and 24 V DC (operating range 11 to 30 V DC). Where one exists, it is listed on the product page under Other version.
