PR134 module in DIN rail enclosure, front three-quarter view

Spud pole length measurement with 4-20 mA output

Article number PR134s01

Inland vessels that anchor with spud poles do not need the same pole length everywhere, because the water depth varies. The PR134s01 measures the extended length with three inductive sensors and converts it to 4-20 mA, so an indicator or control panel shows at once how deep the pole is. Two contacts report when the pole is fully retracted and when it is fully extended. The end point is set by extending the pole once, so the module suits any pole length.

  • Supply 24 V DC (±10 %)
  • Input three inductive sensors with PNP output (sensor A, sensor B and Pole up), powered from the module; NPN on request
  • Output 4-20 mA, 21 mA max.; two relay contacts (NO), 30 V DC and 0.5 A DC max.

Setup

  1. Connect the sensors according to the wiring diagram. Make sure sensor A and sensor B are not swapped.
  2. Switch on the supply and wait until the LED stops flashing, about 30 seconds.
  3. Fully retract the spud pole. The orange light of the Pole up sensor is then on and there are at least 2 V between terminals 4 and 8.
  4. Hold button 2 until the LED flashes red: configuration starts.
  5. Extend the spud pole to the required end point. On the way, the module counts the number of rotations.
  6. At the end point, hold button 1 until the LED flashes green. The end point is now set: at this point the contact on terminals 9 and 10 is closed and the output is at 20 mA.
  7. If the LED flashes red when you press button 1, check sensors A and B: they must light up orange when the measuring metal passes. You can also measure between terminals 4 and 6 (sensor A) and between terminals 4 and 7 (sensor B).

Application

  • Measuring the extended length of spud poles on inland vessels and showing it on an indicator or control panel
