PR181 module with PWM output and heat sink in DIN rail enclosure, front three-quarter view

0-10 V centre-position joystick to two PWM outputs, low-side switched, with display

Article number PR181-X052

The PR181-X052 converts the 0-10 V signal of a centre-position joystick into two low-side switched PWM outputs. As delivered, 0 V gives 100 % on output 1, both outputs are at 0 % at 5 V (centre position) and 10 V gives 100 % on output 2. The joystick positions, the dead band around the centre, the limits, the rise and fall rate and the PWM frequency are set on the display. Limits and rise and fall rate apply to both outputs together.

  • Supply 9 to 30 V DC
  • Input 0-10 V from a centre-position joystick, on terminal 3, 11 V max.
  • Output two PWM outputs, low-side switched, on terminals 6 and 8; 0 to 100 % duty cycle, lower and upper limit adjustable for both outputs together

Setup

  1. Connect the module according to the terminal table. Connect terminal 2 to terminal 7 with a short wire rated for the maximum output current, and switch on the supply.
  2. Move the joystick fully to the left, so that the input is 0 V. In the menu, select JoySet-L, press OK, select YES and press OK again.
  3. Move the joystick to the centre position, so that the input is 5 V. Select JoySet-M, press OK, select YES and press OK again.
  4. Move the joystick fully to the right, so that the input is 10 V. Select JoySet-R, press OK, select YES and press OK again.
  5. Set the lower limit of the outputs with PWM min: change the value with UP and DOWN and confirm with OK. The value runs from 0 (0 % duty cycle) to 4095 (100 %).
  6. Set the upper limit of the outputs in the same way with PWM max.
  7. If required, set the rise and fall rate with Ramp-Up and Ramp-Down, the PWM frequency with PWM Freq and the dead band around the centre position with Joy-hyst.
  8. Go to the SAVE menu to store the new settings.

Application

  • Driving motors, pumps, valves and hydraulics smoothly with the adjustable rise and fall rate

PR181 series: signal conditioners with display

The modules in the PR181 series are set up on the display on the module, using the UP, DOWN and OK buttons. On most versions the lower and upper limits of input and output are set independently, as is the rise and fall rate of the output; the settings of each module are listed on the product page under Setup. With an adjustable rise and fall rate, motors, pumps, valves and hydraulics can be driven smoothly. On versions with an analogue output, that output is galvanically isolated from input and supply to prevent ground loops. New settings are stored through the SAVE menu. The standard DIN rail enclosure measures 45 x 83 mm (board 42.6 x 72 mm); versions with more terminals are wider. Most modules run on 9 to 30 V DC at -25 to 55 °C, non-condensing.

For some conversions there is also a version without display and without galvanic isolation in the PR100 series: it is set up with push buttons and runs on 12 and 24 V DC (operating range 11 to 30 V DC). Where one exists, it is listed on the product page under Other version.
